Post-match Reports - 5th July 2010
Home United FC VS Gombak United FC
Home United FC are blazing on all fronts after recording their sixth win in a row, defeating Gombak United FC 2-0 at the Clementi Stadium. Last night's victory sees our Protectors leap above Tampines Rovers FC into second place and are now hot on leader's Etoile FC heels.
The match was billed as the battle between two teams with a strong defence, but it took Home United FC only nine minutes to breach Gombak United's backline. Sharil Ishak played a beautiful through pass behind Gombak United's defence for Shi Jiayi. Bearing down on goal with an on-rushing Zaiful Nizam, Jiayi showed his class by lifting the ball over Zaiful to give Home United the perfect start. A goal up, our Protectors played a patient game, retaining possession well. Our miserly defence was again a tight unit. Gombak United's front duo of Agu Casmir and Pascal Eddoh was well-marked throughout by Valery Heik and Choi Chul Woo. Home United could have added more goals in a 5 minute spell in the first half. Our Protectors attacked relentlessly and Gombak United was hanging on a thread. It took some fine goalkeeping and the woodwork to keep the score intact till half-time.
The 15 minutes half-time break did not affect Home United's momentum, as our Protectors dominated proceedings. On 55 minutes, the outstanding Jiayi turned provider when he crossed far post to a lurking Jun Wookeun. Faced with Jeremy Chiang' and Zaiful Nizam' expected challenge, the Korean still came out tops as he sent his header into goal to give Home United a 2-0 lead. Thereafter, Captain Sharil Ishak could have added to the scores on several occasions, as he tormented Gombak United's defence with his clever runs and good footwork.
Home United FC have made it 6 wins and 6 clean sheets consecutively. With such form, our Protectors will soon blaze away the seven points difference from Etoile FC. Home United FC's next match will be this coming Monday, 12th July when we travel to Jurong East Stadium to take on Japanese side Albirex Niigata FC.
